What are the differences between Vinyl and Nitrile gloves?

Prior to 2020, many of us never gave glove types a second thought. Now we are overwhelmed with countless types and options to choose from which get very confusing. How do you know if you need Vinyl gloves or Nitrile gloves? Well, we are here to help!

Vinyl Gloves

Vinyl gloves are great for quick tasks that require frequent changes, such as the food industry because they are more cost-effective. Vinyl gloves are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials that are allergen and latex-free. They can be used when handling non-hazardous chemicals and materials.

Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile gloves are becoming more and more popular across the board in multiple workplace settings. There are two types of Nitrile gloves: medical-grade, and industrial grade. Medical-grade Nitrile gloves are very puncture resistant and are used for handling blood-borne pathogens, or other contaminants found in the medical field. Industrial-grade Nitrile gloves are often used where harsh chemicals are present such as in mechanical shops, tattoo parlors, and janitorial services. Nitrile gloves are made out of synthetic rubber, making them latex-free, phthalate-free, and BPA-free.

Nitrile and Vinyl gloves are often blue or purple so it is easier to see any rips and punctures. Color does not determine anything about the quality or use of the glove. Heartsmart offers both Vinyl and Nitrile powder-free blue colored gloves.
